The
Excursion The
Three Rivers Rambler departs and returns to Volunteer Landing on the Knoxville
Riverfront (between Calhouns on the River and the Tennessee Grill restaurants).
The trip is one hour and twenty minutes roundtrip. Our route
is 51/2 miles (11 miles roundtrip) over the Knoxville & Holston River Railroad.
Historical Interests and Unrivaled
Scenery The train
leaves the riverfront and travels parallel to the river through farmland and local
industry, passing historic Knoxville sites and landmarks as well as active businesses.
At the head of the Tennessee River, where the Holston & French Broad Rivers
meet to form the Tennessee, the train crosses the Holston River on the famous
Three Rivers Trestle.
A Breathtaking Return
At the Asbury
Quarry outside of Marbledale, the train makes a brief
stop while the locomotive is switched from one end of
the train to the other for the return trip to Volunteer
Landing. Just after starting back, the Rambler pauses
on the trestle, so that everyone has a chance to admire
the view. The Rambler then makes a leisurely return to
the riverfront.
